about sc
sunday cafe is a sort-of-church and sort-of-cafe for christians (all variations welcome) and those vaguely interested. it’s a place to relax and make friends. it’s a chance to experience real and relevant christianity.
sc is for 15 to 25 year olds and runs on sunday evenings from 7.30pm during term time at trinity church hall in frome, somerset.
regulars have descibed sc as;
“fun/social/relevant/friendly/relaxed/not too intense/having a sense of community/church/a place to grow in faith/ever changing/lots of silliness/contemporary/a place to discover and question/bridging the gap between community and church/a safe place”
sc has tried a whole lot of things (some of which has worked!), including;
making films/debates/curry nights/weekend aways/discussions/meditations/watching films/speed-praying/zones/making radio programmes/truck-stop breakfasts/24h famine fundraisers/youth led sessions/quiz nights/boggle/nooma/pizza nights/testimony/black-tie bbq/
sc has 5 core principles (some stuff you might expect to see here is taken as a given!)
1. all are made in the image of god, therefore all have value.
2. jesus was real and relevant to those around him, therefore sc should be.
3. the development of a personal faith is central, and built on our own life experience, our experience of the holy spirit, and the life of jesus seen through the bible.
4. our faith directly affects the way we look at and respond to the world around us.
5. fun.
